Fireplace Card - Carols of Christmas Bundle

Every year I set myself a goal to start making my Christmas cards early but I never do.  Are you the same?  I know Christmas is 5 months away but when Stampin' Up! announced the early release of the Carols of Christmas stamp set and coordinating Card Front Builder Thinlits Dies I knew it was a great opportunity for me to finally be able to achieve my goal.

The stamp set and dies are in the upcoming Autumn/Winter catalogue which goes live on September 1st but you can get your hands on them from August 1st.  You can also use your Bonus Days vouchers to purchase them.  You've got to love Stampin' Up! for their amazing promotions.

When I first saw the dies I immediately thought one of the dies looked like a fireplace.  As soon as the dies arrived I started working on my fireplace card and this is what I came up with.  What do you think? 


This was my 2nd attempt at making this card.  The 1st card had a 'grey marble' effect fireplace and I stamped the Deck the Halls sentiment inside the fireplace but it didn't look right so I started again.

The samples, below, from Stampin' Up! show the 'fireplace' die being used to cut a decorative pattern, it doesn't have a cutting blade on the outer edge. 


         

I cut 2 pieces of 4-1/8" x 2-3/4" Thick Whisper White card, I centred the die on the cardstock and ran it through my Big Shot.  I adhered to fall-out pieces from the 2nd die-cut onto the other die-cut and then I sponged it using Soft Suede ink.  I cut a piece of Birthday Memories DSP for the wallpaper and I found the fire image on Google.  I added Stampin' Dimensionals onto the back of the fireplace before adding it to my card.


 The Reindeer and Poinsettias were made with the Carols of Christmas bundle and the bells are from the Oh, What Fun stamp set.  The new Mini Stampin' Dimensionals are perfect for adding behind the Reindeer, Poinsettias and Bells.  The Merry Christmas sentiment is from the Flurry of Wishes stamp set.  Once I had stamped the sentiment I masked off an area leaving a small border and sponged Soft Suede ink around the edges.


I am really pleased with my fireplace card, my second attempt at it is definitely better than the first.  Everyone I have shown it to has loved it, I hope you do too.  I love getting feedback on my projects so if you have a few minutes to spare please leave a comment below.  If you have any questions please let me know.

*When designing a project or when I CASE a project I always use my cheap cardstock to make a prototype before making it with my Stampin' Up! cardstock.   I do check the measurements I add to my blog posts but when typing lots of measurements mistakes can be made.  When making any project I recommend making it first with cheap cardstock before using your best cardstock.*

    I don't think we have any stockings stamps small enough for this, but, a great idea non the less. Hi Dee, my name is Gloria. I've read your instructions and am trying to figure how to make this fireplace, I too have this bundle. I guess I wonder why you didn't make the fireplace out of soft suede cs. But, I'm really confused by your beginning directions. I understand die cut 2 fireplaces from white cs. But that's it. I don't understand from this point on. I'm having a bad day I guess. It's just not going in my mind and making sense. I hope you can explain to me, so my thick brain understands. TFS!

    I was originally going to make a grey marble effect fireplace that's why I cut the thick Whisper White cs and also because I wanted the sturdiness of it too. When my daughter suggested making a wooden fireplace I gave it a try and
    I really liked it.

    If you have the layering squares framelits these will also cut the inside of the fireplace xx
